Tenant & Mike In the Studio

Thanks for checking out my site! My name is Mike, I’m from Vancouver British Columbia Canada, and I eat, sleep, and breathe music and recording.

I believe that recording should be a fun, productive, and natural experience. It should never have to feel like a chore and you should never have to be frustrated! Your gear, your mics, your digital workstation should all be an extension of yourself and your creativity. So, I’ve decided to dedicate myself and this website to helping you accomplish this. Once you remove the confusion and frustration, recording becomes one of the most enjoyable experience out there. You are making and recording music!! How could you not love it!?

So here’s the backstory…

In January of 2009 I started working on a project called Guerilla Recording Techniques – a video tutorial series about home studio recording.

It was meant as a way to answer the collective questions of friends, family, and clients who wanted to know more about home studio recording.

I had friends that were interested in what I did, which was (and still is) recording and producing music. On a lot of occasions I’ve been asked whether my experience at recording arts school was worth the money. Although I made a lot of valuable connections at school, I don’t really believe it was…

I knew there were a lot of people out there that were considering applying and making the same mistakes as I had. So I made it my goal to develop a simple way to answer some of their questions, and at least give them a chance to consider whether school was really necessary. You can save a lot of money and buy some really excellent recording gear and learn how to use it yourself rather than spending that money on tuition.

That’s what this website is about. I love teaching this stuff almost as much as I love doing it.

If you’d like to learn more about recording or get involved with our community, you can:
